Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management & Technology, Guwahati was established in 2006 as the first non-governmental engineering institute in the state of Assam. The college is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and is affiliated to Gauhati University. It has been managed by Shrimanta Shankar Academy. GIMT has set its goal to be a leader in providing quality education and training in engineering, technology & management.The vision of the institute is to produce competent, disciplined and quality engineers and administrators having the drive, skill and confidence to become the pioneers of tomorrow. Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT) came into being in 2006 as the first engineering college in the non-government sector in the state of Assam, as a part of initiative of Shrimanta Shankar Academy. The institute is guided and motivated by its vision to play a key role in the transformation of the youths into competent, disciplined and quality professionals having drive, skill and confidence to become pioneers of tomorrow.It is due to tireless efforts and dedication of our faculty resource that has enabled GIMT to carve a respectable position in the technical education landscape of the region. The institute offers B. E. programmes in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology, Applied Electronics and Instrumentation, and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. Further, Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and Masters in Computer Application (MCA) are also two Post graduate programmes available. This year, with due approval from AICTE and Gauhati University, Masters of Engineering (M.E.) in Computer Science and Engineering is being introduced. The institute’s laboratory facilities and infrastructure in Electronics Department has been approved by Gauhati University for PhD level research work. Such a combination gives students the breadth and depth necessary for pursuing careers in academics as well as industry.The residence requirements for ME/MTech program is four semesters. However, it is possible to get permission to spend one semester elsewhere.
