The origin of Central Pulp & Paper Research Institute (CPPRI) dates back to the year 1975 when the UNDP-GOI Project became operational with an objective to create the required R&D facilities for evaluation of fibrous raw material for the Indian paper industry. After the conclusion of the above project, CPPRI came into existence as"National Level Research Institute" dedicated for the assistance to the Indian paper industry. The Institute has redeemed itself in the service of Indian Pulp and Paper Industry through a number of R & D initiatives and continued support through high quality of technical & consultancy services. The 11th Five Year Plan Schemes are mainly dedicated to the core issues of the paper industry namely; (i) Conservation & Upgradation of Raw Material (ii) Quality Improvement; (iii) Energy Management; (iv) Environment Protection; & (v) Human Resource Development.
The Institute’s commitment to environmental protection is evident through a large number of projects being implemented both under plan schemes and also through sponsored projects from Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) as well as mills, which covers all the three major segments of the paper industry. The Institute has developed expertise to carry out EIA and REIA studies , Environmental and Water Audits, Performance Evaluation of Pollution Control Equipments etc. CPPRI is also giving high priority to application of biotechnology in pulping & bleaching as well as effluent treatment and recovery and production of value added products from wastes generated from pulp and paper industry.
In the area of Human Resource Development (HRD), Institute is making serious efforts to emerge as an hub for upgradation of knowledge & imparting of training in various areas of papermaking to semi-skilled/skilled manpower in the pulp, paper and allied industries.
I hope that this website will become prelude for increased interaction between institute and industry, which will go a long way in fulfilling the objectives of institute.
