GATE Versus IES

GATE Versus IES

GATE IES
Entrance test for admissions into ME/ M. Tech and also for recruitment of candidates for jobs in PSUs. Recruitment test for central government jobs in various Engineering Departments.
Objective type questions. Conventional type problems are also given with multiple options / choices as answers and also numerical type questions. These questions require calculator to solve. Objective & Conventional type questions are given. Calculator is allowed only for conventional type papers but not for objective papers.
Competition ratio, in terms of number of candidates qualified versus the member of candidate appearing the examination is nearly 1:7. Competition ratio in terms of the number of vacancies versus the number of candidates appearing the examination is about 1:300.
A good number of candidates could get very good ranks, in their very first attempt. Only a few candidates could get good IES ranks in their very 1st attempt. Candidates could get good ranks only in their 2nd or 3rd or higher attempts.
Relatively, easy competition Relatively, tough competition.

The GATE preparation will cover almost 70% of the total preparation required for IES, The GATE examination is in February/March and the ESE is held after wards in June. Therefore, the best strategy is to prepare initially for GATE and then onward concentrate on the remaining portion of IES, if the candidate is successful in GATE with good rank, then the chances of getting success in IES examination will be very bright. A good score in GATE will definitely boost the morale of the candidates and will provide a smooth path for taking IES with much more confidence and energy. Thus GATE is an acid test for the candidate before taking IES . In case, the candidate is unlucky in getting IES, the candidate will have an alternative in the form of GATE rank, with that he can join M. Tech without waste of time. And also, the candidate stands good chance to get selected for PSUs which offer jobs with attractive salary packages even better than the IES. Moreover, the process of IES examination, interview, final selection and issue of posting orders take a long time. Meanwhile, without wasting time, the candidate is advised to join M. Tech. The Candidate will have an additional degree, M. Tech before joining IES and this will be an added feather in the cap of the candidate. Subject development and mental maturity will be additional advantages. The candidate will have multiple career opportunities. The suggested approach for a fresher is “GATE first IES next”.

Thus GATE will be a launching pad for IES.

Special note to 3rd and final year students of B.E / B. Tech Summer short term batches for GATE-15 (about 45 to 60 days) will be arranged at Hyderabad, Vijaywada, Vizag, Bangalore etc. These batches will be arranged during the summer vacation of the students. This will be very much useful for 3rd and final year students who cannot take long-term regular batches.

What is GATE?

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India entrance Examination conducted jointly by IISc. And seven other IITs, every year in the month of February/March. The GATE score/Rank is used for admissions to Post graduate Programmes (ME, M.Tech, MS, direct Ph.D) in IISc, IITs and other Universities in India, with financial assistance provided by MHRD. The GATE Score may also be used by PSUs for recruitment of candidates for prestigious jobs with attractive salary packages. Some of the PSUs which use GATE score for providing jobs include BARC, BHEL, IOCL, HPCL, NTPC, Power Grid, NHPC etc. GATE exam primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of the candidate in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering. The GATE score reflects the relative performance level in a particular branch. GATE score is valid for three years.

Pattern of Question Paper:
All the papers of GATE will be conducted by an ONLINE computer Based Test (CBT). The GATE paper consists of questions of both multiple choice type and numerical answer type. For numerical answer type questions, the candidates have to enter a number as the answer using a virtual key board. The GATE examination consists of a single paper of 3 hour duration that contains 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks.

Eligibility:
Completed or final year students of BE /B.Tech or its equivalent. MSc/MA/MCA can also apply.

Age Limit:
There is no upper age Limit.

Syllabi:
The syllabi for the exam in Engineering streams include General aptitude (Numerical & Verbal) for 15 marks, Engineering Mathematics for 10 to 13 marks and the rest of 72 to 75 marks in technical subjects studied at B.Tech level.

Why GATE?

  1. You can get admission in M. Tech/MS in IISc / IITs / NITs and other Universities depending upon your score
  2. If you were unluky in IIT – JEE, you can get one more chance to realize your cherished goal of studying in IISc / IITs by taking GATE
  3. Based on GATE Score, you can apply for some of the top PSUs which offer lucrative jobs.
  4. You can get a fincancial aid of RS 12400/- per month in the form of UGC scholarship
  5. With a good GATE score you can land in IISc / IITs / NITs where you can have abundant campus placements with attractive salary packages ranging from Rs 6 Lakh to 30 Lakh per annum.
  6. You can shift to management side by doing PG Diploma of 2 year in Industrial engineering in NITIE Mumbai, where admissions are based on GATE score and interview.
  7. If you don’t have first class in Engineering and if it is a hurdle to apply for some of the jobs like teaching, it can be overcome by doing M.Tech/ MS.
  8. You can try for MS admissions based on GATE score in some of the foreign Universities like in Singapore and Malaysia.

It can be seen from the above that the number of aspirants of GATE increased phenomenally in the recent years. The competition may further increase in the coming years. To survive in the present cut throat competition and secure a good rank in GATE, taking coaching in a reliable institute is advisable.

Special Note to the Final Year Students:

The final year students are advised to join the early batches so as to effectively manage the time in the final year. The GATE syllabus will be completed before the semester examination and this will be very useful for the semester examination and also to face the technical interviews at the campus placements. The subject domain knowledge is also being tested in the technical interviews of some of the software companies.

A Special Note to CS & IT Students:

Luck is meeting point of alertness and opportunity. 4 year of hard work and knowledge gained in engineering will shape your career till retirement. One differentiator that makes you tall in all circumstances is subject knowledge. Technology, job profiles are changing fast but computer science subject principles are always same in all aspects, the best way of getting hired is campus recruitment!!!!!, should be dream for many students as it is red carpet for your life. As you all know IT companies are focusing and hiring candidates who are strong in subject principles but not technology since they provide you intensive training on latest/required technologies on the job.

To make you lucky here is the opportunity. Come, experience and learn our GATE+ CRT coaching, specifically designed for 3rd and 4th year of CSE and IT. We are committed to provide you which is useful till your professional retirement, be ready to spend just 6 months and become luckier.

The M. Tech from premier institute like IISc/IITs/NITs can fetch a package of Rs 6 to 30 lakhs per annum in an MNC.
