GATE Versus IES

GATE Versus IES

GATE IES
Entrance test for admissions into ME/ M. Tech and also for recruitment of candidates for jobs in PSUs. Recruitment test for central government jobs in various Engineering Departments.
Objective type questions. Conventional type problems are also given with multiple options / choices as answers and also numerical type questions. These questions require calculator to solve. Objective & Conventional type questions are given. Calculator is allowed only for conventional type papers but not for objective papers.
Competition ratio, in terms of number of candidates qualified versus the member of candidate appearing the examination is nearly 1:7. Competition ratio in terms of the number of vacancies versus the number of candidates appearing the examination is about 1:300.
A good number of candidates could get very good ranks, in their very first attempt. Only a few candidates could get good IES ranks in their very 1st attempt. Candidates could get good ranks only in their 2nd or 3rd or higher attempts.
Relatively, easy competition Relatively, tough competition.

The GATE preparation will cover almost 70% of the total preparation required for IES, The GATE examination is in February/March and the ESE is held after wards in June. Therefore, the best strategy is to prepare initially for GATE and then onward concentrate on the remaining portion of IES, if the candidate is successful in GATE with good rank, then the chances of getting success in IES examination will be very bright. A good score in GATE will definitely boost the morale of the candidates and will provide a smooth path for taking IES with much more confidence and energy. Thus GATE is an acid test for the candidate before taking IES . In case, the candidate is unlucky in getting IES, the candidate will have an alternative in the form of GATE rank, with that he can join M. Tech without waste of time. And also, the candidate stands good chance to get selected for PSUs which offer jobs with attractive salary packages even better than the IES. Moreover, the process of IES examination, interview, final selection and issue of posting orders take a long time. Meanwhile, without wasting time, the candidate is advised to join M. Tech. The Candidate will have an additional degree, M. Tech before joining IES and this will be an added feather in the cap of the candidate. Subject development and mental maturity will be additional advantages. The candidate will have multiple career opportunities. The suggested approach for a fresher is “GATE first IES next”.

Thus GATE will be a launching pad for IES.

Special note to 3rd and final year students of B.E / B. Tech Summer short term batches for GATE-15 (about 45 to 60 days) will be arranged at Hyderabad, Vijaywada, Vizag, Bangalore etc. These batches will be arranged during the summer vacation of the students. This will be very much useful for 3rd and final year students who cannot take long-term regular batches.
