Biochemical Engineering
About course
Biochemical engineering is a branch of chemical engineering
or biological engineering. It mainly deals with the design and
construction of unit processes that involve biological organisms or molecules.
The discipline is similar in nature with chemical engineering or biological
engineering. The course mainly focuses on the interaction between chemical
engineering, bio chemistry and microbiology. Its applications are found in
pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food and water treatment industries. This
objective of this branch is to train the students in biochemical engineering,
biotechnology, microbial and enzyme system and developing understanding of the
biological or biochemical phenomena underlying in these systems. It also deals
with the engineering analysis and optimal design of various biological systems
and processes. The students are also taught the kinetics of growth, death and
metabolism, fermentation, agitation, mass transfer and enzyme technology constitute
the other parts of the course.
