Rubber Technology | Safety and Fire Engineering

About Course
Rubber technology is a branch of engineering that constitutes processing of latex, natural rubber, or synthetic rubber to convert it into useful products. Rubber is processed and then molded into the required shape during the manufacture of items such as toys, garments, stationeries, accessories such as bands, musical instruments, automobile parts for ease compression, washers, and other such items. Rubber technology as an engineering field deals with the transformation of rubbers into many useful products. One of the most significant uses of rubber is its application in the manufacturing of tyres used in different type of vehicles ranging from a plane to a bicycle. India has about 6,000 rubber units but people are not fully aware of this emerging profession. With the rising number of automobiles and increasing use of rubber in industries, rubber technology is becoming a lucrative career option.

Core Subjects
Some of the main subjects in Rubber technology are:-
  • Elastomer Physics
  • Elastomer chemistry
  • Industrial Rubber
  • Natural rubber production
  • Simulation and Mechanics
  • Speciality Polymers
  • Synthetic rubbers

Further Education
There are numbers of college who are offering Master degrees in Rubber technology. Practicing more n more in Rubber technology would help an individual to gain a solid hand in the particular field. After graduation, two more years in Master/Diploma course in rubber technology and one will be specialized.

Job Profiles
Even though rubber technology is comparatively a newer entrée into the field of engineering, but the demand for rubber technologists are on the rise. Both the public and private sectors offer a large number of job opportunities for rubber technologists in umpteen industries. The demands for rubber goods such as tyres, insulation materials, waterproof wares etc. is ever lasting.
