Indian Maritime University Common Admission Test 2015

Admission for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes 2015

Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai, invites applications for admission to following UG/PG programmes of Academic Year 2015-16
The Indian Maritime University (IMU) was established on 14th November 2008 as a teaching and affiliating university under the Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India, with Chennai as headquarters
It was set up to promote maritime studies, training, reasearch and extension with focus on emerging areas like oceanography, maritime history, maritime laws, maritime security, search and rescue, transportation of dangerous cargo, environmental studies and other related fields, and to acheive exellence in these areas
Indian Maritime University (IMU) will conduct common admission test (CET) for admission to its UG and PG programmes at its 36 affiliated Institutes. This year onwards Computer based or online exams will be conducted

IMU CET Eligibility Criteria

Following are the eligibility criteria:
DNS course
A) 60% (PCM) and 50% (English) in 12th class
B)  B.Sc (Any of these Physics/ Mathematics/ Chemistry/ Electronics) passed                                    
candidates with 55 % marks
C) B.tech candidates with 50 % in English
Note: Candidates applying for DNS, needs to have passport before the admission
2) B.Sc- 3 years:  60% (PCM) and 50% (English) in 12th Class. For B.Sc in Ship Building and Repair only 50% in PCM
3) B.Tech Marine Engineering/Naval Architecture: 60% (PCM) and 50% (English) in 12th Class. 2nd Year lateral entry candidates should have pursued Marine or Mechanical or Naval Architecture or Electrical in diploma
Note: Lateral Entry in to B.Tech program is still in process by the IMU and no admission will be there till further notice
4) PG Diploma in Marine Engineering: 50% in B.tech/ B.E course or program
5) M.Tech Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering: 60 % in B.tech in Mechanical /Civil Aeronautical/Marine/ Naval Architecture
6) MBA: 50 % with any stream
7) LL.M (Maritime Law): 50% in any law degree

Age Criteria for IMU CET

[For U.G Programmes]
Age limit (For DG, Shipping-approved courses): Age as on the date of admission for marine courses leading to placement on board ie 01st August 2015 shall be as follows:
i) Minimum age 17 years
ii) Maximum age 25 Years
Note: a) For Scheduled Castes (SC) & Schedule Tribe candidates (ST) Candidates maximum age relaxation is for five (5) years
Reservations of Seats
i) Candidates - 15% Quota
ii) OBC candidates - 27% should be part of Non Creamy layer
iii) ST - 7.5%
iv) DA candidates - 3%
Any candidate who is applying for the reserved category should have valid caste certificate as per Govt. of India

Fee Structure of IMU CET Courses

B.Sc or DNS courses:  Rs 2,20,000/- for Boys and 140,500/- for Female cadets per year
B.Tech Courses: Rs 225000/- for Boys and 140500/- for Female cadets per year
B.Sc Ship Building & Repair: Rs 220000/- for both male and female cadets per year
B.Tech Naval Architecture: Rs 225000/- for both male and female cadets per year
M.Tech Courses: 225000/- for male and female cadets per year
Ph.D Course: Rs 10000/- per year
PGDME (GME): Rs 300000/- for whole course

Physical Fitness for IMU Courses

Candidates who are applying for all these courses needs to comply with medical standards of D.G. Shipping and they have to go through a medical examination, before appearing for the counseling

Eye sight

For DGS-approved courses viz DNS, B.Sc (Nautical Science), B.Sc (Maritime Science) & B.Tech (Marine Engineering), there should not be any degree of squint or any morbid condition of eyes or of the eyelids that is liable to aggravate or recur, pressure of trachoma and iris complication sequela
Candidates must possess good binocular vision (Fusion faculty and full field of vision in both eyes)
Movement of the eyeballs must be full in all directions and the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation
Candidates joining DNS, B.Sc (Nautical Science) & B.Sc (Maritime Science) degree course are not allowed to wear glasses and their vision should be 6/6 (normal) in each eye separately

Selection Process

First University conducts a common entrance exam and then after those candidates who are selected are called for counseling or GD or PI as per the course applied
Candidates must make sure that, they comply with all the eligibilities

IMU CET Examination Pattern

All admissions to the various UG and PG programmes of the IMU and its Affiliated Institutes will be through All-India Common Entrance Tests (CETs) conducted every year, usually in the month of April
There will be a CET common to all UG programmes
There will be a CET common to the 2 MBA programmes; another CET common to the 2 M.Tech programmes; and yet another CET for the programme
Candidate needs to be aware about the fact that, all the questions asked in this exam are as per what taught to the students in their 12th class. Multiple choice questions are asked in this exam
Total number of questions - 180; time duration - 180 minutes or 3 hours
For UG programmes question paper will comprise of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, English, General Knowledge and Aptitude questions at Plus 2 level (CBSE, ISE and State Boards)
For the MBAs questions will be asked from English, General Knowledge, Aptitude, Financial Accounting, Economics, Maritime Affairs, Mathematics at UG level
For the M.Tech questions will be asked from English, General Knowledge, Aptitude, Mathematics and Engineering
For LLM (Maritime Laws) questions will be asked from English, General Knowledge, Aptitude and General Laws
The exam will be Computer-based or online and questions will be of multiple choice type
Candidates who are shortlisted based on CET scores will be called for Counselling at designated IMU Campuses and will involve verification of original mark sheets and certificates, physical fitness clearance, and allotment of seats in the IMU Campuses or Affiliated Institutes

Announcement

Computer-based (Online) CETs: The Indian Maritime University has switched over to Computer-based CETs on the pattern of IIT-JEE from 2014 onwards
The CETs for the August 2014 batch and for the February 2015 batch of DNS were conducted in this manner. The CETs for the August 2015 batch of admissions will also be Computer-based

The Computer-based CETs for IMU’s UG and PG programmes are scheduled to be held on 25th April 2015 afternoon between 02.00 pm and 05.00 pm in a single shift
They will be held simultaneously in the following 35 cities across India: Agra, Hyderabad, Patna, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Port Blair, Allahabad, Jodhpur, Pune, Bangalore, Kanpur, Raipur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Kota, Shimla, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Siliguri, Chennai, Meerut, Srinagar, Cochin, Mumbai, Trivandrum, Coimbatore, Muzaffurpur, Varanasi, Dehradun, Nagpur, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati and New Delhi

How to Apply

Candidates have to apply online www.imu.edu.in
Candidates have to visit the website and fill the online application form present on the CET 2015 hyperlink
A Passport size colour photograph of size 156cm × 156cm and the candidate’s scanned signature of size 200×60 have to be uploaded before submission
On applying candidates will get a Unique Application number
After filling the application form with personal details like cell ph no and email id for periodical intimidation, candidates can make payments online at State Bank Collect - A Multi-Modal Payment Portal
To make payments offline candidates can download and take a print of the challan and make payment at the nearest SBI bank
After making payments through any mode come back to the saved
Online Registration web page of the Service Provider, enter the unique Reference number/Journal number and other details such as the mode of payment, date of payment, amount paid, etc to make confirm registration
Fee for Forms: Rs.1000/- for General candidates and Rs.700/- for reserved category- with Bank Challan
Form will be filled online and candidates have to enter all the details there only. Link for filling form will be available at the imu portal. In the end candidates needs to enter the bank details
After application form is complete, a printout needs to be taken and should be attached with documents (See below). All documents needs to be put into an envelope and needs to be sent toAdmission Cell, Indian Maritime University, East Coast Road, Uthandi, Chennai-600119

Documents required for IMU CET exam

i. These documents should be attached with application form during filling up
ii. Reserved category certificate like SC, ST etc
iii. As an age proof attach high school passing certificate or whatever that has date of birth
iv. 12th class passing certificate. Pursuing candidates needs to provide it during counseling
v. Provisional degree in case candidate has passed graduation
vi. Other documents, if needed
